All About RC Jets and Aircrafts

Controlling a model aircraft from the ground has become a popular hobby for many enthusiasts. People of all ages are embracing the pursuit of designing, building, and flying radio-controlled, or RC, jets, airplanes, and helicopters. Some skills are necessary to succeed with this hobby, but many clubs exist that will help people learn more about the process. It’s also important to learn about local and national laws governing the use of RC aircraft to ensure that pilots operate within the law.

Although this type of aircraft is comparatively small in size and it does not involve passengers on board, it is still considered a true type of aircraft. The size and weight of RC aircraft are much smaller than passenger aircraft; however, they can still fly at speeds that are fast enough to involve injury if a collision occurs with a bystander. For this reason, pilots must learn safety parameters to ensure that accidents do not occur.

The radio system used to control aircraft involves four main components. The transmitter sends information from the operator to the aircraft, enabling the operator to control it. The receiver receives the signals and routes them accordingly. The servo is responsible for decoding the signals. And the batteries maintain power to operate the devices. As for the radio signals themselves, the Federal Communications Commission regulates the frequencies utilized by RC aircraft.

New pilots will benefit from working with an instructor to learn about everything involved with flying. Trying to learn the hobby without the expertise of an experienced instructor could result in needless frustration and expense from accidents. Some instructors teach students using a “buddy box.” This device enables the instructor to step in and assist with control of the aircraft. This assistance can be valuable both for general instruction and to avoid potential accidents from occurring.
