Leaving On A Jet Plane

Fantastic article about the love affair (now non-existent) of flying commercially.

I used to love airplanes. I was a bit nervous at takeoff most of the time – I’m not sure why I wasn’t just as anxious when the plane landed, but I wasn’t – but I loved everything else about it. There was silverware in coach, I seem to recall, and free drinks, and the captain would point out places of interest 38,000 feet down.

They had to be big places of interest.

But that was during the era that we thought was reality, as opposed to a blip of prosperity that seemed permanent but wasn’t. I can remember flying first class on a 747 – in those days, I was working for companies that sent employees top drawer all the way, hang the expense.

“I like to arrive refreshed when I reach Paris,” one executive told me.

“Oh, so do I,” I said fervently, never having arrived in Paris in any shape in my life. And first-class Air France was like a high-speed version of the court of Caesar Augustus. I expected to see a suckling pig butchered before my eyes as twinkly-eyed stewardesses (as they were called) carried jeroboams of Champagne for carousing passengers.

7 Life Lessons From The Very Wealthy

At ElJet we are big fans of Barry Ritholtz we enjoy him for his overall wit, and market insights. You can follow his blog “The Big Picture” by clicking this link here.

He recently wrote an article about very wealthy individuals whom we have the pleasure of working with on a daily basis. His article resonated and we have decided to post it here.

Money won’t buy happiness, but it will pay the salaries
of a large research staff to study the problem.
Bill Vaughan

Please excuse the very wealthy for feeling a bit under siege lately.

Taxes for the top 2 percent are very likely to go higher. Uncle Sam’s share of capital gains and dividend income might rise, and means-testing for Social Security and Medicare is probable. In the United States, the very rich hold most of that wealth in dollars, which are worth increasingly less. As income inequality has grown dramatically in the nation, the very wealthy are blamed for all manner of social ills.

Rather than pile on the wealthy, this week I’d like to approach the subject of money a little more philosophically. There are surprising insights to be gleaned from the experiences of the very wealthy regarding their investments and experience with wealth.

Private Jet Charter Continues To Rebound

The private jet charter industry is continuing to rebound after a tough few years.

As the industry and global economy contracted, many older aircraft were retired and weaker charter operators filed for bankruptcy. This has helped to make the current US charter fleet much younger but also aircraft available for charter more restricted.

At ElJet we have survived through the tougher times due to our strong balance sheet and commitment to customer service. As we sit in the front row watching the industry come back we have noticed the following trends.

  • Reduced demand by managed fleet operators - As owners who have their aircraft in managed fleets are utilizing their aircraft more. Hours available for charter customers have declined.
  • Higher Fuel Prices – Higher fuel prices have led to increased costs for the charter consumer (and operators). This has led to an increase in charter prices year over year (YOY).
  • Less price flexibility – Operators have been less willing to negotiate pricing as demand continues to return.
  • Large Cabin / Short Leg Flights – Operators have been less willing to do short haul flights (1 hour or less each way) on large cabin (Heavy Jets) as the wear on the aircraft vs. the potential revenue equation is no longer attractive.
  • Short Notice Flights – Its more imperative than ever to book in advance. If you are planning a summer trip now would be the time to lock in your aircraft so that you can have the best choice of aircraft and to ensure that you receive optimal pricing.

We are very pleased to say that we are on track for another record breaking year. We at ElJet are committed to value and hope that we can assist you with future flights. To get the best pricing we encourage our customers to book in advance. We are standing by 24/7 to assist you with all of your travel needs at 888-355-3538.

ElJet Opens It’s Streamlined Booking Charter Select Program

LOS ANGELES, CA–(Marketwire – April 13, 2011) –  ElJet Aviation Services Inc. 500′s fastest growing private jet charter company has opened its Charter Select program to the charter consumer.

Private Jet Charter - ElJet

The program, which has been in testing has been developed in conjunction with ElJet’s more frequent travelers and has seen incredible success. It is now available to the traveling public.

“Our business has seen tremendous growth as the recession educated charter consumers of the limitations and lack of value offered by Jet Cards and Fractional shares,” said Ben Schusterman ElJet’s President. “Our clients’ biggest complaint about utilizing on-demand charter was that for last minute itineraries the hassle of completing paperwork for every trip was so tedious. I can’t tell you the number of times we had client flights delayed due to a business meeting that ran late and by the time they got back to their hotel the business center was already closed. The Charter Select program solves this problem for good,” said Schusterman.

How It Works:

Clients sign a blanket agreement which provides authorization for the client or client’s representative to book charter on their behalf. Payment is still required in advance (for immediate itineraries by credit card for itineraries that are a few days out either by credit card or via wire transfer). Client is sent an itinerary, photos and pricing via email and can approve the flight with a simple email approval.

There are 3 tiers to the Charter Select Program, Basic, Premier and Authority. More information and the benefits of each tier can be compared at http://www.ellejet.com/streamlined-booking.php.

Value

“Clients of the program benefit not only by taking advantage of last minute empty leg deals. But also from the overall cost savings that on-demand charter provides,” said Levi Leader Travel Portfolio Manager. “For people on the go this program is an incredible time saver this program is geared to them.”
