Flying with Pets?

Flying With PetsTraveling with Pets on Private Jet Charter

For many, pets are cherished members of the family and transporting them in the freight hold of a plane is not a consideration or even an option. Private charter provides a safe and secure, and sometimes the sole, means for transporting beloved pets.

While private charters must adhere to the laws governing the countries in which they operate, ultimately they provide significantly greater flexibility when flying with pets as compared to commercial travel.

To reduce the trauma of flight, for both pet and owner, flying together in the cabin of a private charter is the optimal solution.

Specifics of flying private charter with pets

Pets traveling in the cabin are at the discretion of the operator, so if you want to fly with your pet please inform your Travel Portfolio Manager. An operator and aircraft where this is permissible can then be secured.

Operators might require:

• The disclosure of the type, breed and weight of the pet
• A carrier or restraints
• An agreement/contract that applicable cleaning and damage fees be paid at the conclusion of the trip

Adherence to Laws

Even with the increased flexibility of the operator, private charters must adhere to the laws governing the transport of animals within the area they are operating.

For countries not listed above, please visit the official government website of the respective country into which you are traveling.

United States

To begin, please make sure your animal meets the USDA definition of a pet. Dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs and most common domestic household pets meet this standard.

  • Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned for at least 5 days
  • Cages and carriers must meet the minimum standard for size, ventilation, strength, sanitation, and design for safe handling

The State of Hawaii has more restrictive policies regarding the import of animals. Please check to make sure your pet meets its criteria.

European Union

Coordinated rules for EU countries has facilitated the ease of movement within the Union.

  • A Pet Passport cannot be obtained within the U.S. nor can a U.S. veterinarian enter information into a Pet Passport, this will invalidate the passport.
  • The maximum number of animals traveling with you at one time cannot exceed 5.
  • Dogs, cats, and ferrets traveling into the EU from outside countries or territories (with some exceptions) must enter through Traveler Points of Entry where their documents will be inspected by authorities.
  • Determine the specifics required for each EU member country as well as Switzerland and Norway.

United Kingdom

While a member of the European Union, the UK has more stringent requirements than much of the EU.

You can enter or return to the U.K. if your dog, cat or ferret has

You must use specific travel routes and companies to enter England, Scotland or Wales.
